This demo was created in preparation to present to the Allbirds design team as a an early example of how VR design could help with concept generation.
Texture Painting
Texturing painting is an essential activity for character design in animation and games. Typically one artist will create the model or mesh and then another artist would perform the texturing. This is usually separated between two artists as the technical skills require to create an optimized mesh with good topology are quite different from that of the artistic skills for painting.
Polygon Modelling
In desktop based modelling software the artist does not have direct access to place a vertex or edge in three dimensions. They are limited by the 2D input (mouse) and 2D output (screen) devices they are using. At best manipulating a vertex for an arbitrary 3D position is a two step process.
Realtime Collaboration
Once we had an immersive design space, it was natural to want to invite others to join. There are a lack of online collaboration tools for 3D design. Where as text editing has Google Docs, and 2D design has Figma, there remains a void for 3D collaboration, inside or outside of VR.
